Tough crowd, right? Nine plays into the home opener. That's all it took before the MetLife Stadium crowd turned on its quarterback tonight, which might just be the fastest in "Monday Night Football" history. Hey, who said this Giants offense wouldn't set any records? Eli Manning insisted he did not hear the boos coming at him from all directions, and even managed to do so with somewhat of a straight face. But sitting in a luxury suite high above the playing field, the noise was crystal clear to the old quarterback who raised him. "When I was a rookie, I played in Green Bay and I heard them boo Bart Starr," Archie Manning said, dismissing any talk that the Giants fans had lost their patience too early. "From that day, I said there is no sacred star." (The Star-Ledger)Comment
Joe Girardi's hook on A.J. Burnett Monday against Minnesota didn't sit well with the embattled pitcher. When asked about failing to get through the fifth inning in the Yankees 6-4 win, the inconsistent starter corrected the reporter asking the correction with his version of the events that happened. "I didn't get through the fifth because I wasn't allowed through the fifth," Burnett said. "It wasn't that I couldn't get through the fifth. No matter who says what or whatever, I got confidence in myself and that's all that matters." While Burnett didn't specifically call out [Girardi] for pulling him in the fifth inning with the Yankees up 5-3, he didn't hide away from implying that he thought he could have continued in the game. Drew-Goodman is back on, with more than a few headliners scheduled to appear, and the teams working on adding more. As for the biggest potential addition of all, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant hit a game-winner during an Aug. 16 Drew League scrimmage but isn't a formal member of the team. He was recruited to play for Drew in D.C., but he declined the invitation. [Said Drew League commissioner Dino Smiley:] "I haven't heard anything from Kobe. ... I know (Milwaukee Bucks guard) Brandon (Jennings) and a few of the other guys felt they really didn't want him to play. ... We would love to have him. If he wants to play, I'm sure he will, but we're not gonna go out and recruit him." (ESPNLosAngeles.com)Comment
Texas A&M fans are still bitter about Baylor's threat to file a lawsuit against the SEC, which has kept the Aggies in the Big 12. (Via @DerekAggie06)
This is when it stinks to be a video intern with the Giants.
