Giants safety wants Vick to play

Though we may not know the Eagles' plans for Michael Vick until gametime, Antrel Rolle knows how he wants things to play out. [Vick] will remain the daily hot topic as the division rivals prepare to face each other for the first time this season. But don't expect the Eagles to clarify whether he will play until the last possible moment. ... Count Rolle among those hoping Vick will be ready to go. "I want the best of the best, and he is the best," Rolle said during his weekly WFAN radio spot yesterday. "I hope Michael Vick plays, because at the end of the day, I don't want any excuses when we go down to Philly and put it to them the way we will." (New York Post)Comment

Ramirez believes he's done in Chicago

Aramis Ramirez may have played his last came in the friendly confines. [Ramirez] said after Tuesday's game that he believes he's played his last game as a Cub at Wrigley Field. Ramirez left the game with a mild quad strain, and was asked if it was his last game [with the Cubs at Wrigley]. "Probably," he said. "There's a good chance. I'm a free agent and I don't know what's going to happen. But it looks like I'm going to hit the market." The Cubs hold a $16 million option on Ramirez. He said he wants to return, but "we haven't heard anything" from the Cubs. "We don't have a GM, so I don't know who you talk to," he said. He said neither he nor his agent, Paul Kinzer, has spoken to Chairman Tom Ricketts. (Chicago Tribune)Comment

Battier a goner?

What Grizzlies fans can be optimistic about a Marc Gasol return, what about Shane Battier?Unlike Gasol, Battier is an unrestricted free agent. That means he can sign wherever he wants without the Griz having a right to match any contract offers. I do know the Griz are very interested in re-signing Battier. I also know this deal will come down to nothing but dollars and cents. I've heard (and this is not fact) that Battier is seeking a contract starting at the mid-level exception (or around $5 million). I've also heard the Griz aren't willing to pay that. So Battier is absolutely right when he says we'll have to wait and see what the new CBA looks like. No one knows what the exceptions will be if there are any at all. (Memphis Commercial Appeal)Comment
