Giants need to call ... Moss?

Desperate times may call for desperate measures in New York. Paging Randy Moss! Please pick up the Big Blue courtesy phone! Yes, it's a desperation call. But those are the kind that the Giants are going to have to start making if they're interested in salvaging a season that has been ravaged by injuries. Moss is the only free-agent receiver available with the kind of explosiveness that the Giants need right now. No disrespect to Victor Cruz, the Giants' second-year receiver, or Jerrel Jernigan, the rookie, but no one is going to get their popcorn ready to see them dance in the end zone. It's too early to panic, with 14 games remaining. But the Giants are in terrible straits on offense. (New York Daily News)Comment

Leyland: Don't second-guess Verlander decision

Jim Leyland is already looking ahead to the postseason. [Leyland] provided some clarity on the team's postseason rotation before [Thursday's] game against the Baltimore Orioles. And Justin Verlander's routine won't change. [Leyland] announced that Verlander will pitch games 1 and 5 of the first round, meaning he won't go on three days' rest. "That won't happen, so you can get all the second-guessing out early," Leyland said. "Whether we're going to win it or not win it, Verlander will pitch Game 1 and Game 5. All the second-guessers can come out and say that I should pitch him in the fourth game if we're behind. That's not going to happen. I'll leave it at that." (Detroit Free Press)Comment

Bogut will be limited 'my whole life'

Absent a lockout, Andrew Bogut would be back in Milwaukee getting ready for training camp. Bogut has been working out in his native Australia while recovering from off-season surgery on his right elbow, the one he injured on his gruesome fall at the Bradley Center in April 2010. I reached Bogut by e-mail and he answered a few quick questions. ... On how is elbow feels after the surgery performed in April by Dr. James Andrews and if he still has limitations: "I will have limitations my whole life, but compared to where I was this time last year, it's night and day better. I am shooting every day and lifting weights four times a week. My elbow still gets very achy if I overdo training (too many shots in one day)." (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel)Comment
