At the end of Sunday's Cowboys-Patriots game, much of the talk centered around another Tom Brady game-winning drive. There was talk also of untimely penalties and the need to learn how to finish games. But what we really learned about the Cowboys Sunday is that coach Jason Garrett no longer trusts his quarterback. Too many bad trips on the Tony Romocoaster over the first month of the season made Garrett gunshy when it mattered most. ... Even a frustrated owner Jerry Jones admitted as much. After trying his best not to second-guess Garrett, Jones spoke at length about not going for the dagger late in the game. "It could have been a tremendous boon for us," Jones said. Utley's knee may never be fully healthy
Time is no longer be on the side of the Phillies. First baseman Ryan Howard will be 32 next season and may not be able to make it to the starting gate in April after undergoing surgery last week to repair a torn Achilles tendon in his left foot. Second baseman Chase Utley will be 33 next season and missed the first 45 games in 2011 because of patellar tendinitis in his knee. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. concedes it is not magically going to disappear. "I don't know if it's behind him," Amaro said. "Is he going to be a 30-home run, 110-RBI guy and hit .300? I don't know that. I hope he is. That will help us. Whatever we get out of Chase is going to help us." (Philadelphia Inquirer)Comment
Oakley blasts Knicks game plan
Charles Oakley remains a Knickerbockers fan, even if they're not necessarily his cup of tea. [Oakley] hopes to see the Knicks return to the heights they reached in the 1990s, when he and Patrick Ewing patrolled the paint at Madison Square Garden. But Oakley isn't convinced the team's current power forward, Amar'e Stoudemire, is the man to get them there. "Amar'e's good, he's good in his way," Oakley said yesterday at the launch of his clothing collection at K1X's store in SoHo. "He's a West Coast player trying to translate to the East Coast. And the longer he plays in the East, the more his body's gonna get damaged, because he's got to take a beating now." (New York Post)Comment
