Ovechkin's play puts coach on hot seat

The most common finger that's pointed in Washington finds Bruce Boudreau in the spotlight. The truth is, only one person is emotionally missing from the Capitals' locker room, and everyone inside that cocoon knows who it is. It's the guy who looks like a shell of his former self. ... Until Alex Ovechkin finds himself, finds the electrifying player he once was and backpacks this team to the Stanley Cup finals, everyone's employment with the organization is in jeopardy. Boudreau might go first. If not, then they jettison Alexander Semin, Ovechkin's friend and Russian countryman whose mercurial ways seem to be rubbing off on Ovi more than his adrenaline and fire have ever influenced Semin. Tebow no closer to impressing bosses

Though John Elway was quick to praise Tim Tebow's Thursday night effort, it wasn't exactly a seal of approval. [The win] -- the Broncos' third straight and fourth since Tebow was named starter -- hasn't sold anyone in the Broncos' front office on Tebow being the long-term answer at quarterback. When asked directly by host Gary Miller if Elway is, "Any closer to feeling if you have your quarterback on this team," Elway paused, and answered, "No." Elway then pointed to the Broncos' third down conversion numbers under Tebow as a key area that needs to improve. ... "When you look at our third down numbers, those have to improve. I mean, that's the bottom line," Elway said. "We can't go 3-for-13 and win a world championship." (The Denver Post)Comment

Meyer open to Ohio State overtures

After a troubling season, Ohio State fans have a shot at Urban Meyer. [Meyer] told CBSSports.com on Monday that he has not been offered the Ohio State job. He did, however, say that if the job became open and were offered he would have to consider it. "Our family is in a good place right now and we're enjoying our time together. I feel good and I'm enjoying what I am doing," Meyer said by phone. "If an opportunity like that did come along I would consider it only because it is home. If something happens at Ohio State then I would have a decision to make." Meyer is a native of Ashtabula, Ohio. He attended the University of Cincinnati and was a graduate assistant at Ohio State.
