Allen blasts 'depressing' Detroit
Jared Allen made this weekend's Vikings-Lions game a little bit more interesting. The [Lions hope] to get back on the winning track when they welcome the 2-10 Minnesota Vikings to town this Sunday. Previewing the game for KFAN-FM, Vikings star defensive end Jared Allen expressed his dislike for the city of Detroit. "I don't like going to Detroit," Allen said. "I'll be honest, it's gloomy, it sucks. Everything is brown and then there is snow on the ground. There's like Brownstones everywhere and I'm like, 'Awesome.' I don't know, I couldn't do it. If I had to live in Detroit, I think I'd just drown myself in the river that was across the way. I'm not trying to be mean, but it's just depressing when I go there," he continued. (MLive.com)Comment
Keep those Mannywood signs mothballed. Manny Ramirez is not coming back to the Dodgers. General Manager Ned Colletti immediately shot down the far-fetched idea of re-signing Ramirez, who electrified Dodger Stadium upon arriving in 2008 only to leave two years later as a disgraced figure. "I think we're probably past that at this point," Colletti said. Ramirez, who retired last season instead of facing a 100-game suspension for violating baseball's drug policy for the second time, has filed for reinstatement. Any team that signs Ramirez would be without him for 50 games. ... The Dodgers' outfield is set. Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Juan Rivera are slated to start, with Jerry Sands and Tony Gwynn Jr. expected to be the backups. (Los Angeles Times)Comment
The blockbuster deal that died Thursday night appears far from over among those who were to be sent packing. Lamar Odom is still a Laker, but he doesn't sound completely thrilled about it. Odom admitted that he was "shocked" and "surprised" when told Thursday afternoon that the Lakers agreed to trade him to the New Orleans Hornets as part of a deal for point guard Chris Paul. But this evening when he heard that the NBA had killed the trade, Odom said he was in "total disbelief" over these new developments. ... "I guess that means I'm a Laker if the trade didn't go through," a somber Odom said in a phone interview with The Times. "I don't know what to do for the Lakers.
