Speculation Wall may not return this season
The left knee injury John Wall suffered has clearly become more problematic than he or the Wizards had anticipated. In his first interview in more than a month, Wall admitted Monday he has developed cartilage damage underneath his left patella. His continued absence three months after the diagnosis of a non-traumatic stress injury has opened the door for more speculation about when -- or if -- he'll return this season. "I'm not thinking like that," Wall said, when asked if it would be better for him to sit out the entire season. "Hopefully the time I've taken off and the shots I got and the treatment I've been getting is helping me get healthy so I can play basketball this season. You don't want to miss a whole season." Saban: Brees flunked Dolphins physical
Having Nick Saban back in Miami will lead to a host of inevitable questions, some of which he answered during a Monday radio interview. [Saban] spoke publicly for the first time about one of the more controversial moves of his 2005-06 Dolphin tenure. Of course it's the Daunte Culpepper versus Drew Brees situation following the 9-7 season in 2005. Things didn't go so well with Culpepper while Brees went on to win a Super Bowl in New Orleans. "We thought Drew Brees was an outstanding player and that's who we made the first offer to," Saban said. "Quite frankly, you know, he didn't pass the physical with our organization so we had to go in another direction and there was nothing any of us could do about that." (Sun-Sentinel)Comment
"We're certainly not punting on 2013," Sandy Alderson told reporters on Monday in the wake of a trade that shook up the Mets. They have in the neighborhood of $7 million to spend, so don't look for them to swoop in on intriguing names that are still out there like, say, free-agent center fielder Michael Bourn. The best, most realistic options are Scott Hairston and Cody Ross, both of whom will likely get multi-year deals as free agents. One intriguing possibility: Oakland's Coco Crisp, who will earn $7 million in 2013 and has a $7.5 million team option (against a $1 million buyout) in 2014. The A's have an abundance of outfielders. ... A Mets official didn't rule out the possibility of acquiring Crisp. (New York Post)Comment
