Is Chip Kelly looking for a quarterback?

In his first day on the job, Chip Kelly chose not to make any proclamations about his choice for starting quarterback. But there were words to be parsed and phrasings to be speculated upon, and the general sense from this vantage point was that Kelly's starting quarterback for 2013 isn't likely on the current roster. "There is nothing that's on the board right now, there's nothing that's off the board now," Kelly said. ... The more pressing question with [Michael Vick's] contract is whether the Eagles will keep him beyond Feb. 6. On that date, a provision kicks in that guarantees him $3 million. "It's pretty obvious that there is a first decision to make," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said. (Philadelphia Inquirer)Comment

Teammate: Manti Te'o loved the attention

As the tale of Manti Te'o unfolds, it becomes more complicated. Citing one former teammate of [Te'o's], ESPN's Bob Holtzman reported on College Football Live Thursday that Notre Dame players always sensed something fishy with regard to Te'o's alleged deceased girlfriend. "I talked to a former Notre Dame teammate of Te'o's today, who told me that most players always thought that this wasn't really Te'o's girlfriend," Holtzman reported. "And that they always suspected that this didn't really add up with the story. (The teammate) also told me that Te'o loved the attention and that even though the story may not have been what it seemed to be, that he was more than happy to play along with it." Barbosa, Ainge deny trade request report

While the Celtics are reportedly monitoring big man Greg Oden, a more immediate headline-making matter rippled through Boston on Thursday. Leandro Barbosa and Danny Ainge both denied a report from ESPN Brazil that the guard has requested a trade from the Celtics. In a translation of the story, Barbosa is quoted as saying, "I will not lie to you. I tried to get out several times, but Danny Ainge does not want to let me go." Shown both the translation and the actual story yesterday, Barbosa said the remarks are not his. "It never came out of my mouth like that," he said. Asked bluntly if he is trying to get the Celtics to trade him, Barbosa said, "No, I want to play. I want to be here. That's it." ... Ainge flatly denied Barbosa has asked to be dealt.
