Dwight Howard will explore free agency
Given the chance over the weekend to entertain his future in Los Angeles, Dwight Howard said, "I haven't thought about it." Even if Howard wasn't telling the truth, he can't act on any decision he would make for more than two months; he becomes a free agent July 1. At that point, Howard can sign a five-year, $118 million contract to stay with the Lakers, or a four-year, $87.6 million deal with another team. ... According to several sources familiar with Howard's thinking, Howard will likely explore free agency before reaching his final decision. Umpire on David Price: 'He's a liar'
Price is right -- or wrong? [Sunday ended] in controversy and a he-said/he-said exchange of accusations of lying, [David Price] claiming umpire Tom Hallion cursed him and Hallion denying it, and with Price later continuing his diatribe on his Twitter account: "1. I am not a liar 2. I would not make that stuff up 3. My own dad doesn't speak to me that way 4. Again I am not a liar #accountability" According to Price, he was walking off the field after the seventh inning of what was then a 3-3 game when Hallion -- with no provocation -- "yells at me to throw the ball over the [f'---] plate." Hallion, informed by a pool reporter of Price's accusation, denied adamantly that he used a curse word. "I'll come right out bluntly and say he's a liar," Hallion said. (Tampa Bay Times)Comment
Mark Sanchez hasn't asked for trade ... yet
For now, it's business as usual -- at least on the surface. Mark Sanchez may no longer be "The Sanchise," but the fifth-year quarterback has no plans to ask the Jets to cut the cord. The Daily News has learned that Sanchez has not requested to be released or traded in the wake of Gang Green???s decision to draft his presumptive replacement, Geno Smith, in the second round on Friday. The Jets have given Sanchez no indication they are attempting to trade him or contemplating releasing him, according to a source. ... New general manager John Idzik reiterated on Friday night after he selected Smith with the No. 39 overall pick that he expects Sanchez to "compete" like the other quarterbacks.
