Ewing may be Charlotte's next move
The Bobcats became the latest team to hire a new head coach over the holiday weekend, tabbing Lakers assistant Steve Clifford. Clifford replaces Mike Dunlap, who was fired after one season as coach. Charlotte went 21-61 in 2012-'13. The Lakers assistant was a finalist for the Milwaukee Bucks head coaching job too, and Charlotte made a pre-emptive move to offer Clifford the job before he traveled to Milwaukee on Tuesday for a second interview. He is expected to try to hire Patrick Ewing as one of his top assistant coaches, reuniting Ewing with his close friend, Bobcats owner Michael Jordan. Clifford has had stops in New York, Houston, Orlando and Los Angeles as an NBA assistant coach. (Yahoo!)Comment
Big Ben, Haley overhauling offense (sort of)
It's early yet, of course, but Ben Roethlisberger has an optimistic outlook heading into 2013. [After] rib and shoulder injuries wrecked Roethlisberger's 2012 season -- and took the Steelers down with them -- he's feeling fresh again. "The biggest factor is that there have been no setbacks," Roethlisberger, told USA TODAY Sports. "I don't feel it when I throw." ... In any event, it's Year 2 in the scheme -- and he and [Todd Haley] have been tweaking. "We've thrown out all the stuff that we didn't like, that didn't work," he said. "We've kept the good stuff and even added some things. Normally, at this point in my career, OTAs are boring. But this has been good. I'm still learning this stuff." (USA Today)Comment
SEC school inquired about Golson
In his statement over the weekend, Everett Golson mentioned the "many lessons" he has learned, each as "a result of Coach Kelly's belief in me as an athlete and a person." Oh, yes, there is belief in him. On Sunday, a coach from an SEC school contacted a person close to the Notre Dame program to inquire about Golson. He did enough in completing 58.8 percent of his passes for 2,405 yards and 12 touchdowns with six interceptions in his first year to pique the hopes of Irish fans and the interest of those wondering if he wants a change of scenery. Golson says he doesn't. It's a long summer and fall. And who knows what Notre Dame will do without him, and who knows what that means for him when he comes back. (Chicago Tribune)Comment
