A-Rod making 'fantastic' progress, ahead of Jeter
Of the talent sitting on the DL for the Yankees, Alex Rodriguez may beat them all back to the lineup. [Rodriguez's] recent progress is said by people around the Yankees to have been dramatic, with one person calling it "fantastic" and another even speculating A-Rod could possibly begin to play rehab games just after the All-Star break. ... Rodriguez, whose badly damaged right hip was repaired in the winter, is now physically ahead of Derek Jeter since A-Rod is able to run closer to full bore -- though general manager Brian Cashman isn't ready to pinpoint dates for either player. ... Hernandez's neighbors heard gunshots
Details continue to emerge in the unfortunate story of Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. A law enforcement source told FOX 25 Wednesday night Hernandez appears to be directly tied to the homicide of Odin Lloyd; however, at this point there have been no arrests in the case, but new information gathered Thursday paints a clearer picture as to why Hernandez is the focus of the investigation. FOX 25's Bob Ward's sources have confirmed that there is video evidence of Hernandez and two other men wearing hooded sweatshirts walking into Hernandez's home within minutes of neighbors hearing gunshots. Neighbors say they heard the gunshots between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Monday morning, but did not report it to police right away. (MyFoxBoston.com)Comment
Nuggets offered first-round pick for Doc
While the Doc Rivers-to-Clippers headlines seem as fluid as any in the NBA hopper this week, it seems Rivers wasn't merely on Los Angeles' radar. Shortly after firing George Karl, the Denver Nuggets offered the Boston Celtics a first-round draft pick as compensation to pry [Rivers] out of his contract, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Nuggets CEO Josh Kroenke made a bid for Rivers approximately 10 days ago, informing general manager Danny Ainge of his willingness to part with a pick if the Nuggets were able to procure Rivers. Nevertheless, Boston wasn't prepared to start the process of letting Rivers leave, and discussions never went beyond one brief conversation between Kroenke and Ainge, league sources said. (Yahoo!
