Sanchez failing under the spotlight
So far in camp, the bright lights haven't been kind to Mark Sanchez. [Sanchez] noticed Wednesday that more and more members of the Jets front office are watching his every move as he battles Geno Smith for the starting quarterback job. And if he was trying to impress them, he failed miserably. With all eyes on him, Sanchez completed three of 10 passes in team drills, with a touchdown, interception and one drop. The numbers don't tell the whole story -- it could have been worse. He had other throws that were nearly picked off, and had safety Dawan Landry been a half-step faster, that touchdown could have easily ended up a turnover. On the other hand, the drop in his stat line would have gone for another TD had Stephen Hill been able to reel it in. (New York Daily News)Comment
Depending on your perspective, there were winners o' plenty in the 2013 trade deadline sweepstakes -- from the Orioles and Red Sox on the East Coast, the Dodgers on the West Coast and the Tigers in between -- but Milwaukee wasn't one of them. The two players they wanted to trade, they couldn't because Aramis Ramirez didn't come off of the disabled list in time and John Axford didn't pitch well enough to bring a decent offer. A starting pitcher that could have brought a decent return, Yovani Gallardo, stunk ... and that was before he limped off of the field with a leg injury Tuesday. Just how much spotlight is LeBron James willing to occupy? The NBA players association could be on the brink of a seismic power shift that goes well beyond the naming of a new executive director. [James], the game's best and most popular player, is mulling a bid for the union's presidency. "It's something he has talked about with a small group of people," a source with close ties to James told FOXSports.com on Wednesday. ... The source close to James cautioned that he thinks it's "unlikely" the Miami Heat superstar will decide to seek the presidency. "LeBron doesn't do anything halfway and he has serious concerns about whether he has the time he knows the job requires," the source said. "The demands on LeBron's time are already substantial."
