Once the COVID-19 pandemic is under control, there will be substantial hurdles for sports leagues. One challenge will be the leagues’ capacity to test players, coaches and referees in as close to real-time as possible. Current tests for coronavirus take at least a day and up to several days to get results. A multi-day delay presents the risk that a player that may have tested negative could’ve become infected in the days awaiting results. This is a big concern for team-based sports like the NBA, NHL, MLB and NFL.
