Browns Safety Juan Thornhill Ruled Out With Calf Injury vs. Ravens

Thornhill is the second key player from the Browns' secondary to leave the game due to injury

The Cleveland Browns’ secondary is now down two of its top players as it battles against the Ravens.

Safety Juan Thornhill was ruled out for the rest of the game with a calf injury suffered in the third quarter. Thornhill appeared to suffer the injury while making a tackle against Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers.

Thornhill joins cornerback Denzel Ward as Browns players who have left the game with injuries. Ward exited the game in the first half with a neck injury.

Safety Rodney McLeod replaced Thornhill, who had totaled three tackles in the game. The Browns also have Grant Delpit as their lone active safeties in the game. Delpit, however, also briefly exited the game with an injury in the third quarter, forcing the Browns to move Greg Newsome II over to the safety position. He re-entered on the next drive.

The Browns have had mild success against Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who has thrown one touchdown and an interception and has largely been contained in the pocket. Cleveland has sacked Jackson three times heading into the fourth quarter, with 1.5 of them coming from edge rusher Myles Garrett. The Ravens have totaled over 260 net yards.

The Browns caught a tough break, however, when James Proche muffed a punt to begin the fourth quarter, allowing the Ravens to get the ball back at the Browns’ 12-yard line. Baltimore scored a touchdown to take a 31-17 lead after running back Gus Edwards scored from the goal-line.
