Don Cherry: Milan Lucic handshake furor "much ado about nothing"

Milan Lucic threatened Dale Weise in the handshake line after his Bruins were eliminated Wednesday night in Game 7?

So what, says Don Cherry.

"It's much ado about nothing," the Coach's Corner star told CBC News Thursday. "He shouldn't have said it, but he just lost the seventh game.

"That the feeling between the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins. There's no love lost there, that's for sure."

While much of the hockey world is lining up to lambaste Lucic for his postgame behavior, Cherry took issue with Montreal's Weise for revealing what was said on the ice to the media.

"I'm a little disappointed in Weise [for] saying anything [about it]," Cherry said. "'Oh, here I am, the victim.' So what, [Lucic] said it. You think a lot of things haven't been said in those handshakes and that?"

Cherry, who had his own issues with the Canadiens when he coached the Bruins, was more upset that Boston came up small in the decisive game. And he was quick to hang the goat horns.

"We outplayed them. We out shot them. We out hit them. And we didn't have the goaltending they had.

"I know how [Claude Julien] feels because I've been there myself. He's feeling mighty low. He'll look at the same stats and wonder how it happened. And he'll come to the same conclusion I come to: his goaltender [Tuukka] Rask did not live up to his expectations."

Cherry did have some kind words for Montreal's P.K. Subban, who he called the best player in the series, and goaltender Carey Price.

"Price was the guy. He was the number one star. Any team he plays from here on, it's going to be tough to beat [Montreal] because of him."
