Injured Martins may be out of Nigeria's Cup squad

Nigeria coach Shaibu Amodu may have to make do without star player Obafemi Martins at the African Nations Cup after the Wolfsburg striker is still being plagued by injury.

Martins has been out of action ever since he underwent surgery on a shin injury back in November and has since been struggling to return to full match fitness in time for the Cup of Nations.

A decision about whether the attacker will be included in Nigeria's final squad will be made by the end of Friday, the Nigerian Football Federation said.

Martins was being examined by Nigerian medical staff in Durban on Thursday to determine the extent of his recovery.

Nigeria faces Benin, Mozambique and defending champion Egypt in Group C in the tournament in Angola, which starts on Sunday.
