By Josh Davis, Washington, D.C.
In 2010, I flew with my dad all the way to South Africa for a single night to watch the United States take on England. We had a layover in Madrid, then met my English uncles in Johannesburg (they too only came down to South Africa for the night, straight from England) and we all drove together to Rustenburg.
We watched the match, went to sleep, drove back to Johannesburg in the morning, hopped on an overnight to Madrid and flew back across the pond to D.C. for work the next morning.
My boss at the time called me stupid for going all the way to Africa for fewer than 24 hours, but it was the best night of my life. I didn't go for a length of time -- I went for the moment, and it's one I'll never forget.
