Mainz finished seventh in Bundesliga last season. Their leading scorer was Shinji Okazaki, who tallied 15 goals last season. Mainz will be looking to reach heights under the direction of new manager Kasper Hjulmand, who replaces Thomas Tuchel.

This offseason, Mainz lost Cameroon striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting -- the team's second-leading scorer last year -- to Schalke 04. While the team's attack took a hit this summer, they boosted their defensive depth with the addition of Chilean international Gonzalo Jara.
