Striker Daniel Sturridge and defender Mamadou Sakho did not travel with Liverpool and will not play during its Champions League game in Basel on Wednesday, The Guardian's Andy Hunter reports.

Sturridge is still recovering from a thigh injury. He has missed Liverpool's last six matches after he was hurt while training with England earlier this month. He has played in just three games this season for Liverpool, but did have the game-winning goal against Southampton in the season-opener.

Sturridge's status with England is also undecided. England manager Roy Hodgson has until Thursday to name the roster for the team's two Euro 2016 qualifying matches in October.

Sakho is being disciplined by manager Brendan Rogers. He left Anfield after being told he wasn't in the lineup for last week's match against Everton. During the Premier League season, he has started two matches, came off the bench once and was an unused substitute twice. Prior to the Everton incident, he had started four of the team's previous five matches.

Liverpool won its Champions League opener two weeks ago against Ludogorets, 2-1. They started the Premier League season 2-1-3 and are tied with West Ham United for 13th place.
