Former Brazil striker Adriano was cleared of drug trafficking charges on Thursday in Rio after being charged earlier this week, BBC Sport reports.

Adriano, 32, allegedly bought a motorcycle in 2007 for a known drug dealer in the town he grew up, which was used to transport drugs. The judge dismissed the charges due to a lack of evidence.

Adriano faced up to 10 years in prison if he was convicted. He has denied the accusations since they were brought up in 2010. From TheAssociated Press:

The 32-year-old Adriano described the charges as "absurd" and said he was "certain" he would be cleared. He said he is "honest" and doesn't "owe anything to anybody."

The Associated Press also reports Adriano, who started for Brazil during the 2006 World Cup, is attempting to make a comeback with second-division French club Le Havre.
