West Ham United stays fourth in EPL after 1-0 win over West Brom

WEST BROMWICH, England (AP) — Defender James Tomkins scored his first goal in more than two years to give West Ham a 2-1 victory at struggling West Brom on Tuesday, keeping the London team in fifth place in the Premier League.

Craig Dawson had become the first West Brom player to score in 370 minutes but the dream start in the 10th minute turned sour before halftime.

Although Andy Carroll's acrobatic volley was saved by West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster, Kevin Nolan was able to head in the equalizer from four yards (meters) in the 35th.

Tomkins headed in Stewart Downing's corner right before the interval to net for the first time since October 2012.

With a fourth successive loss, West Brom is only two points above the relegation zone in 16th place.
