Roma fights back for 2-2 draw with bitter rivals Lazio in Serie A

MILAN (AP) — Roma fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Lazio in the capital derby on Sunday and move provisionally level on points with Serie A leader Juventus.

Francesco Totti scored both Roma's goals in the second period after a dismal first-half performance from Rudi Garcia's team. Roma's talismanic captain celebrated his second in unusual fashion by taking a selfie of himself on the pitch, with the celebrating fans behind him.

Felipe Anderson had set up Stefano Mauri's opener before doubling Lazio's lead before halftime.

Later Sunday, Juventus visits Napoli, which is a point behind third-place Lazio.

Sampdoria was also a point behind after beating Empoli 1-0.

Genoa slipped up in the race for third as it lost 3-1 at Inter Milan and is level with Fiorentina, which won a thrilling encounter with Palermo 4-1.

Elsewhere, Gianfranco Zola recorded his first win in charge of Cagliari as it beat Cesena 2-1. Also, Atalanta drew 1-1 with Chievo Verona 1 and Hellas Verona beat Parma 3-1.

Roma was looking to move top — for a few hours at least — after cutting the gap to Juventus to one point last week, but Lazio was also full of confidence after a decent run had seen it climb to third.

Lazio players wore black armbands and had the words "Je suis Charlie" emblazoned on the front of their shirts, in tribute to the victims of Wednesday's attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Lazio broke the deadlock in the 25th minute after a great run from Felipe Anderson, who stole the ball off Radja Nainggolan and burst forward from the halfway line before setting up Mauri to volley in from 10 yards.

Felipe Anderson got on the scoresheet himself four minutes later with a low drive into the bottom right corner. The young Brazilian has five goals and five assists in as many games.

Rudi Garcia made two changes at halftime, bringing on Kevin Strootman and Adem Ljajic for Nainggolan and Alessandro Florenzi.

That had an immediate effect as Totti reduced the deficit three minutes after the restart following a delightful ball from Strootman.

Roma looked like a different side and Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti did well to push Juan Iturbe's cross over the bar.

Totti had the Stadio Olimpico on its feet with a magnificent equalizer, flying in at the back post to volley Jose Holebas' cross into the far corner from the tightest of angles — before an equally memorable celebration.

The race for the final Champions League spot promises to be a riveting battle and just six points separates Lazio in third and Palermo, which slipped to 10th.

Sampdoria moved a point behind Lazio thanks to a magnificent curled goal from Eder shortly after halftime.

Fiorentina was three points further back after a fantastic match which also saw Palermo come back from two goals down.

Manuel Pasqual and Jose Maria Basanta fired Fiorentina into a healthy lead, with the home side also twice hitting the woodwork through Borja Valero and David Pizarro.

However, Robin Quaison scored two goals in as many minutes to draw Palermo level shortly after the hour mark.

Juan Cuadrado and Joaquin restored Fiorentina's two-goal lead but Andrea Belotti scored a penalty after being fouled by Basanta and Palermo threatened to level again in the remaining nine minutes.

Inter Milan continued its impressive start to the year, following Tuesday's 1-1 draw against Juventus

Armando Izzo gave Genoa hope of a comeback when he pulled one back with five minutes remaining after first-half goals from former Genoa striker Rodrigo Palacio and Mauro Icardi.

However, Nemanja Vidic scored his first goal for Inter to make sure of the points.

Lukas Podolski made his full debut for Inter, while fellow new signing Xherdan Shaqiri was on the bench.
