Report: Hope Solo expected to be reinstated on Saturday
U.S. women's national team goalkeeper Hope Solo is expected to be reinstated by U.S. Soccer following the conclusion of her 30-day suspension on Saturday, ESPN's Julie Foudy reports.
Solo was suspended in late January after her husband, former Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens, was arrested on suspicion of DUI in an official U.S. Soccer van. Solo, 33, was in the car at the time, though she was not arrested or detained.
The suspension followed several incidents, including the DUI. In June, the goalkeeper was charged with two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault for allegedly hitting her half-sister and 17-year-old nephew. A judge dismissed the domestic abuse charges in January.
ESPN reports that if reinstated, Solo will travel with the team to the Algarve Cup in Portugal.
The U.S. played friendlies against France and England during Solo's 30-day absence. Backup goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris started both games, a 2-0 defeat to France and a 1-0 victory over England.
The team's next game is on March 4 against Norway.
Solo, who has 159 caps with the U.S. women's national team, is expected to be the team's goalkeeper at this summer's World Cup in Canada. She broke the record for career shutouts by a female American goalkeeper last September.
