United States U-23 soccer team to compete in Toulon Tournament

The United States Under-23 national team will compete in the 2015 Toulon Tournament, the United States Soccer Federation announced on Monday.

Since 1974, the Toulon Tournament has been a prestigious showcase event for national teams in younger age groups. Based in the south of France, the U.S. has been placed in Group A, where it will play against host nation France, Netherlands, Costa Rica, and Qatar. Should the U.S. place first in its group, it will play in the final against the top team from Group B, which includes China, England, Ivory Coast, Mexico, and Morocco. The teams that place second in each group will play for third place.

Brazil won the tournament last year thanks to a 5-2 victory over France in the final. The U.S. last participated in the tournament in 2013, where the U-20 national team went 1-3-0, winning against DR Congo but losing to France, Colombia, and South Korea. 

The U.S. U-23s were most recently in action on April 22nd, when the team defeated Mexico 3-0 in a friendly match.
