Paris Saint-Germain denies making bid to sign Cristiano Ronaldo
Paris Saint-Germain denied making a €120 million ($132.80 million) bid to sign Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo has been linked to the France Ligue 1 squad and the Premier League’s Manchester United over the past couple of weeks.
The owners of Paris Saint-Germain reportedly met with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez earlier this month and made the bid for Ronaldo, but PSG officials denied that report. "It is quite untrue." PSG club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi's advisory team toldMarca.
Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal said that while he would like to add Ronaldo to the squad, a transfer is unlikely. Ronaldo played for Manchester United from 2003-09, making 292 appearances and scoring 118 goals.
"Yeah, of course,” Van Gaal said when asked about a possible transfer. “But that’s not possible. Why not? Because you have the club (Real Madrid), Ronaldo and then you have Manchester United and how much Manchester United want to spend.”
"I can give examples of champions: Bayern Munich, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben; Chelsea, Eden Hazard and Willian; Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale; Barca, Neymar and Lionel Messi,” van Gaal said. “Manchester United fans want us to compete with these teams."
New Real Madrid coach Rafa Benitez says there are no issues with Ronaldo despite published reports of a rift between the two.
“My relationship with him is good. When someone gets angry during a training session, but then does their job, there’s no problem, it’s fine," Benitez said.
Ronaldo, the FIFA Ballon d’Or winner each of the past two years, scored 61 goals in 54 matches with Real Madrid this year.
