MLS capsules: Brad Davis scores first Sporting KC goal, more results
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Brad Davis scored the first goal with his new team in the 70th minute Sunday night and Sporting Kansas City stayed atop the MLS standings with 1–0 win over Toronto FC.
Davis joined Sporting KC (3-0-0) for his 15th MLS season after playing the last 10 years for the Houston Dynamo.
He beat defender Justin Morrow to a loose ball near the end line, used a hesitation dribble to create an opening and slotted a left-footed shot into the far corner. It was his 56th career MLS goal.

Morrow fell to the turf during the tussle with Davis and received a yellow card after the play for arguing the no-call.
Sporting KC went down a man in the 84th minute when Roger Espinoza was sent off for a serious foul.
Sebastian Giovonco's free kick for Toronto FC (1-1-1) was blocked by the wall in the final minute of second-half stoppage time.
Union 3, Revolution 0
CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — C.J. Sapong had two first-half goals on Sunday and the Philadelphia Union won their home opener 3–0 over the 10-man New England Revolution.
Sapong finished left-footed shots on Fabinho’s cross in the 18th minute and Warren Creavalle's in the 33rd. Sebastien Le Toux capped the scoring in the 93rd minute.
The Union (2-1-0) won their second straight and tied the Montreal Impact for the early lead in the Eastern Conference standings.
New England (0-1-2) played with 10 men after Je-Vaughn Watson was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Roland Alberg in the 36th minute.
Lee Nguyen’s free kick in the 35th minute hit both posts before rebounding out for the Revs.
Goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth saved two penalty kicks for the Revolution. New England had won its last three visits to Talen Energy Stadium.
United 1, Rapids 1
WASHINGTON (AP) — Fabian Espindola scored the tying goal in the 80th minute and D.C. United salvaged a 1–1 draw against the Colorado Rapids on Sunday.
Rapids goalkeeper Zac MacMath misplayed Taylor Kemp’s cross and defender Marc Burch blocked Patrick Nyarko’s putback. But Espindola quickly settled the rebound and smashed it into the right corner.
Dillon Powers headed home Marco Pappa’s corner in the 69th minute to give the Rapids (1-1-1) the initial lead. That goal came shortly after United (0-1-2) missed a wide-open chance in the 67th when Steve Birnbaum sent a right-footed shot just over the crossbar.
Neither team has a road victory in the series since 2010.

Earlier Sunday, Colorado announced on its website the acquisition of United States international goalkeeper Tim Howard. He will be added to the roster as a Designated Player on July 4.
