A state of emergency will remain in effect in France for Euro 2016 and the Tour de France, French parliament’s lower house has announced.
“The terrorist threat remains at a high level and France, like the EU, is a target,” said interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve.
The state of emergency, which will now be extended two months, has existed in the country since November’s terrorist attacks, when multiple acts of terror killed more than 100 people attending various events in Paris.
“Giving up on sporting events and cultural events is precisely to give in to the terrorist threat,” prime minister Manuel Valls told French radio.

Euro 2016, a month-long tournament taking place from June to July, is expected to draw roughly two million fans to France, while the Tour de France is expected to attract similar numbers in July.
