Wenger edges Klinsmann in BBC reader poll for next England manager
The BBC's readers have spoken, and they want longtime Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to succeed the disgraced Sam Allardyce as England's next manager.
Wenger (16%) edged Jurgen Klinsmann and Glenn Hoddle (15%) in a BBC reader poll, which presented 11 candidates (and "other") to take over on the England hot seat. Allardyce was ousted as manager on Tuesday following a sting by the Telegraph that caught Allardyce giving reporters posing as businessmen tips on how to skirt FA's third-party ownership transfer policy while also agreeing to a lucrative deal to travel to Asia speak to a firm that wanted to buy player's rights.
Allardyce apologized for his actions, but blamed entrapment for being forced out of the post.
Don't expect Klinsmann to make the move overseas, though. After disputed reports that he was in contact with the England FA prior to its hiring of Allardyce to replace Roy Hodgson, Klinsmann emphatically made sure to take his name out of the running before the rumor mill picked up any steam this time around.
England U-21 manager Gareth Southgate is leading the Three Lions on an interim basis for their four remaining matches this year.
He received just 4% of the BBC vote.
