South Africa coach suspended after remarks about critics

JOHANNESBURG (AP) South Africa coach Shakes Mashaba has been suspended and faces a disciplinary hearing after a television camera caught him ranting at his critics following a World Cup qualifier.

Mashaba had to be calmed by a reporter and a South African Football Association official just before he was due to give a post-match TV interview for the national broadcaster.

Following South Africa's surprise 2-1 win over Senegal on Saturday, an angry Mashaba said in apparent reference to the media: ''These people have already buried me, you know that. These people have already buried me ... and you want me to talk to the media?''

SAFA says it suspended Mashaba for a ''regrettable incident'' at the stadium but didn't specify if it was for the pre-interview comments.
