Chelsea and Liverpool could be taking their rivalry to the transfer window this summer as the Premier League duo have been linked with a move for Werder Bremen striker Max Kruse.

Both club's have been eager to bolster their attacking ranks this summer, and the Bundesliga outfit are said to be prepared to allow Kruse to leave if an acceptable offer is received.

Sport Bild suggest the 29-year-old striker could make his way to England's top flight this summer if an offer from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool meets the club's valuation.

The German club are seeking in the region of £16m for the striker whose contract runs until the summer of 2019, but as he only joined the club last summer from Wolfsburg it remains to be seen whether he is prepared to uproot again.

Kruse is said to earn around £42k-a-week at Bremen which could easily be bettered by either Chelsea or Liverpool if they are intent on landing the striker who scored 15 goals in 23 league matches last season.

However, Bremen's manager is confident Kruse will remain at the club for at least another year, so long as no top European club swoops in with a mammoth offer by the end of the transfer window.

The German international has earned 14 caps and scored four goals for his country, and is understood to have had a €12m release clause in his contract, which has now seemingly expired - requiring clubs to dive deeper into their pockets if they're to sign the striker.
