Daryl Murphy has departed Newcastle United after signing for Nottingham Forest on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, the club have confirmed

The 34-year-old spent only one season at St. James' Park - netting six goals in 18 appearances - but will now link up with Nottingham Forest this season.

The Republic of Ireland international has had loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town, whilst also featuring for Sunderland and Celtic during his 13-year career to date.

34-year-old Murphy has an illustrious goalscoring record in England's second division after notching 50 Championship goals in his final three seasons with Ipswich before he made the move to Newcastle.

Such is his experience and proven goal scoring record, Murphy was of interest to a host of clubs this summer after being told by Magpies boss, Rafa Benitez that he no longer had a future at the club.

Nottingham Forest however were quick to thrash out a deal for the powerful target man, whose contract at the club is set to end in June 2020, where he will be 37-years-old.

Newcastle released a short statement following Murphy's departure, reading: "Everyone at Newcastle United would like to wish Daryl well for the future."
