Benjamin Mendy to Manchester City seems to be one of the longest-running transfer stories of the summer, but it looks like it could now be confirmed sooner rather than later.

The latest reports are that City and Monaco have struck a deal worth around £52m, and he is to come in following the official departure of Aleksandar Kolarov to Roma.

Mendy took to Twitter on Sunday morning to post a photo of himself boarding a flight to Los Angeles, which just so happens to be where City are touring for their pre-season.

He also accompanied the photo with a bee emoji which, of course, is the recognised symbol of Manchester, meaning it's fairly safe to assume the deal is imminent.

Mendy has seemingly enjoyed the speculation that has been following over the weeks; he also tweeted a picture of himself earlier in the week shushing the camera and on Instagram he donned Union Jack shorts and cryptically pointed into the distance.

The move, assuming all goes to plan without a hitch, will see Mendy become the most expensive left-back of all time, smashing Luke Shaw's previous world record fee of £30m.

He is set to become City's fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of his former Monaco teammate Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Kyle Walker and most recently Danilo, whose move from Real Madrid was confirmed on Sunday morning.
