Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly has reservations about Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe joining the club this summer as he fears it could be the first steps to him being replaced as the Bernabeu's main man.

According to Diario Gol in Spain, Ronaldo has made it clear to president Florentino Perez that he doesn't want Mbappe to arrive, despite talk of a potential deal worth up to €180m.

It is said that while Mbappe sees Ronaldo as the standard for which he should aim should he make the high profile switch, he also apparently sees the four-time Ballon d'Or winner as his most direct competition in the team.

With the 18-year-old very much seen as the star of the future, 32-year-old Ronaldo is rumoured to have concerns that the arrival of Mbappe will start to push him out of the spotlight.

Diario Gol notes that earlier this year, Mbappe made the case for Gianluigi Buffon to win the next Ballon d'Or ahead of Ronaldo because the veteran goalkeeper deserves it for all he has done.

As well as allegedly taking the comments personally, Ronaldo is said to worry that he was put in the background, which could become more regular as time goes by with Mbappe starting to write the headlines instead.

Ronaldo remains under contract with Real until June 2021, four months beyond his 36th birthday. He has scored 406 goals in 394 games for the club to date and keeps himself in such good physical condition it's hard to believe he won't continue playing at the highest level for many more years.
