David de Gea has admitted that for any player, or young kid, it is a 'dream to play for Manchester United' as the history of the club has made it one of the best in the world.

The Spanish stopper has been in scintillating form for a number of seasons and has been instrumental in the Red Devils fortunes of late, if his three successive club Player of the Year awards between 2014 and 2016 are anything to go by.

His domestic form this season has seen him keep an incredible seven clean-sheets from 10 performances in all competitions, and the admiration from the stands is seemingly mutually shared as De Gea lavished praise on the club.

He said, as cited by Man Utd's official twitter feed: "I think for any player, for any young kid, it's a dream to come and play for Manchester United.

"Probably because of the history of the club and the players that have come through this particular club in the past, making it one of the best in the world.

"As I've said any child would always grow up wanting to play for this team.

De Gea's consistent performances have captured the attention of world football for a number of season and when he was asked how it feels to be considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world: "Yes, it's obviously lovely to hear that if people are putting you up there as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

"I'm feeling very confident at the moment, but i'm training very hard to continue to play at this high level, and I have been playing at this high level for quite a long time. I will train hard to get even better and improve even more."
