Every good team requires a prolific, consistent goalscorer. It's reference 101 in the footballing handbook.

Premier League clubs are no exception, and those wishing to get their hands on the title will need a 20+ goals a season frontman to do the business when it matters.

With plenty of top marksmen in England's top flight, just who will go on to secure this season's Golden Boot? Thanks to you lot, we have the answer:

With over a third of the votes cast, Manchester United's red hot Romelu Lukaku is expected to win the 2017/18 crown.

With how the Belgian has started the current campaign, it's not difficult to see why he's the top pick either.

Seven goals in as many matches for the Red Devils has made that £75m outlay seem like a snip for Jose Mourinho's men, and has left Evertonians feeling aggrieved that their side couldn't do more to eek out more cash for their former star's signature.

Only Leicester City have prevented Lukaku from notching in the league so far and, with confidence coursing through his veins, the 24-year-old is a surefire favourite to end Harry Kane's dominance of the Golden Boot award.

Speaking of Tottenham's superstar, Kane comes a close second to Lukaku in our poll.

Kane's miserable time of failing to bag a single goal in any month of August, throughout his professional career, has once again been forgotten about as the on-fire hitman's record of six in seven this term has lifted his own personal gloom.

Braces against Everton, West Ham and Huddersfield have masked his failure to net in his other four starts for Spurs, but don't bet against him attempting to make it three Golden Boot awards in a row.

Much like Kane, Chelsea's Alvaro Morata is on the heels of Lukaku with his own six goals in seven appearances for the reigning champions.

A hat-trick against Stoke has certainly boosted his numbers, but his even spread of goals across four games - ensuring only three blanks thus far - is slightly more consistent than Kane's.

A hamstring injury which has ruled the new recruit out for over a month will ensure he's playing catch up upon his return, but his more-than-decent record at Juventus and Real Madrid should see Morata in and around the top scorers.

Despite both consistently producing the goods for Manchester City and, before his summer move to Arsenal, with Lyon, Sergio Aguero and Alexandre Lacazette find themselves languishing behind their counterparts.

Aguero's astonishing haul of 176 goals in 261 games for City is only eclipsed by club legend Eric Brook, while Lacazette's record of 129 in 275 was reason enough for the Gunners to make him their new all-time record signing.

Both will be in with a shout of contesting for the Golden Boot, providing injuries - Aguero currently being out with a broken rib - and a loss of form don't play a part.

Who else could be thereabouts come the end of this season? Judging that 10% of those who voted don't consider any of the above quintet to win it, it's feasible that the likes of Jamie Vardy or Sadio Mane could somehow sneak the award.

It's extremely unlikely that they will, though, and we suspect those five names listed will be the true contenders for this year's coveted trophy.
