Eric Bailly has insisted that Anthony Martial is 'happy' at Manchester United, despite his lack of starts so far this season.

The French forward scored the winning goal in Saturday's 1-0 win over Tottenham in what was just his third Premier League start of the campaign.

But Bailly has expressed his belief that Martial is content to help out the team whenever called upon.

“I think we have a lot of very good players in the squad," the Ivorian defender said, quoted by Goal.

“When one does not play, the others do. The good thing about Anthony is that he is always here to help the team whenever he is needed and he showed that today.

“When Rashford plays, Anthony always has that mentality where he is ready to come on and have an impact - which he did by winning the match.

“Anthony, mentally, is strong. He is happy and whenever he has a chance he takes it.”

United have faced criticism for a perceived lack of attacking ambition in recent weeks, edging to victory over Spurs and Benfica in the Champions League, after a 0-0 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

And Bailly has admitted that United's players have not been surprised by the negative comments.

“I think it’s normal that there have been critics," he said. “You have to accept what they say and get back and train well and perform which we have done.”

United host Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday before travelling to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
