Liverpool have been a dealt another possibly injury setback, after Senegal starlet Sadio Mane left international duty early, following concerns of a relapse of his previous injury.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Senegalese FA issued a statement regarding the matter on Sunday, citing 'an old injury' as the reason for his early departure from the squad, after he starred in their triumphant 2-0 victory over South Africa on Friday, securing their place at the World Cup Finals for the first time since 2002.

The full statement read: "The Senegalese Football Federation informs the national and international opinion that, following the match South Africa against Senegal on Friday, November 10, 2017, in Polokwane, the player Sadio Mane was slightly felt (sic) from his old injury.

"After consultations between the medical staff of the national team of Senegal and Liverpool, it was decided by mutual agreement to make it available to his club to continue treatment until full recovery."

Mane left for international duty following his somewhat surprising return to action against West Ham, having been hitherto indisposed due to a hamstring injury sustained during the previous international break.

This is understood to be the aforementioned 'old injury' that has apparently reared its head again.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had previously declared his desire for Mane not to be risked in their second game with South Africa this Tuesday should they win the first, clearly anxious about the star's fitness.

The club will now have a nervy wait to find out whether the winger has suffered any serious damage, as they prepare for Saturday's game with Mane's former side Southampton.
