Sevilla has emerged as a top candidate to sign out-of-favor Manchester United fullback Matteo Darmian and hand the Italian a route out of his Old Trafford nightmare.

Darmian landed in Manchester in the summer of 2015, under then manager Louis van Gaal.

However, since his arrival, the defender has struggled to hold down a first team spot, and has been linked with moves away from the club since Jose Mourinho took charge of the club.

And now, according to the Sun, La Liga side Sevilla are ready to match United's £15m evaluation of the 26-year-old; and could make the move for Darmian in January.

This comes as bad news for Serie A outfit Roma, who were previously installed as front runners to sign Darmian in recent weeks.

Having signed Rick Karsdorp from Feyenoord in the summer, the Giallorossi seemed to be covered on the right side of defense. However, an injury to their man has left the club lacking in that area of the pitch.

Subsequently, the club were linked with a loan move for Darmian in the upcoming winter transfer window - where they would take the Italian back to his native country until the summer; before he is presumably sold by the Red Devils.

With Antonio Valencia nailing down his place as first choice right back, Darmian has been used by Mourinho as a makeshift left back this season.

However, the form of Ashley Young in that position has earned the England international a new contract, and he seems to be cementing down his spot as first choice.
