Mathias Jorgensen has ushered Christmas in a little earlier than normal this year - as the Huddersfield star offered to buy fans a pint for their "amazing support".

The man nicknamed 'Zanka' took to his official Twitter account to post a video that revealed all 2,500 travelling Terriers fans would be entitled to a free drink - setting Jorgensen back to the tune of £8,000 - when their club takes on Southampton on the south coast on Saturday.

Jorgensen only joined Huddersfield in the summer but has already gone on to become a fan favourite, and he explained that the gesture was just a little way for him to say thanks for their unwavering support so far this term.

He said: "Your support this year has been truly amazing, so I thought I would think up something special for those of you travelling to Southampton this weekend.

Huddersfield club officials went on to add that fans travelling to St Mary's would be handed a token at the ground on Saturday, and that said token could be redeemed for a free drink during the club's Boxing Day home clash with Stoke City.

Terriers supporters face a 472-mile round trip from Yorkshire to Southampton's stadium on Saturday, and Jorgensen felt that his gesture of goodwill was the least he could do for those who have followed David Wagner's team up and down the country in their first Premier League campaign.

Huddersfield usually charge £3.20 for a pint of lager at their home ground and, if every fan takes up Jorgensen's offer on 26th December, he will have to fork over £8,300.

The Denmark international won't be on tonnes of money like those superstars at other clubs, but his festive gift will no doubt go a long way to paying Huddersfield fans back for their support.
