Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk required surgery on his right knee after damaging ligaments in a collision with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. “Following surgery,” Liverpool said, “Van Dijk will begin a rehabilitation program with the club’s medical team to enable him to reach full fitness as soon as possible.” Van Dijk has been a commanding presence at the heart of Liverpool’s back line as it's risen to prominence in the Premier League, helping lead the squad to last season's title. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp will now turn to center backs Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. Matip himself, recently returned from injury. Liverpool also is currently dealing with the loss of its first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson Becker.
