Aces Look for 2–0 Lead in WNBA Finals

Plus, Bayern and Barcelona face off in the Champions League.

The return of Monday Night Football was as exciting as ever last night, with the Seahawks pulling off an upset of the Broncos that featured plenty of head-scratching plays by Denver in what became must-watch TV.

While we wait for football to return Thursday night, we’ve got plenty to look forward to until then. Game 2 of the WNBA Finals is tonight, with huge implications for the winner in this best-of-five series. Plus, there’s high-profile Champions League action, and baseball’s pennant races heat up.

Here’s what I’m watching today.

A quick note: Due to COVID-19, sports schedules are fluid and subject to change.

MUST WATCH:

Connecticut Sun at Las Vegas Aces

A’ja Wilson on the Las Vegas Aces

Both these teams have gotten this far because of their elite offenses, but Game 1 of the WNBA Finals was an old-fashioned defensive battle that saw neither team top 70 points. In the end, MVP A’ja Wilson and postseason star Chelsea Gray were just too good in Game 1, powering Las Vegas to a 1–0 series lead despite an uncharacteristic off night for Kelsey Plum. That allowed the Aces to win despite a season-low scoring output, as detailed by Ben Pickman. Now, a critical Game 2 looms as the Aces go for a commanding series lead, and the Sun look to avoid having their backs against the wall for the remainder of the series.

Champions League: Barcelona at Bayern Munich

This is the headliner of the third match day of the group stage. It’s a battle between two of the biggest clubs in Europe who got off to strong starts to the UCL campaign last week. Bayern had little trouble dispatching Inter Milan on the road, while Barça got a hat trick from Robert Lewandowski in its opener against Viktoria Plzen. Can Lewandowski, the former Bayern forward, give Barcelona the edge today in Munich? The winner today takes full control of Group C.
