How to Watch Game 5 of the ALDS

Plus, the Broncos take on the Chargers on ‘Monday Night Football.’

There are few things more exciting than an elimination baseball game. We’ve seen amazing energy throughout the country in venues from Philadelphia to San Diego as upsets and wild finishes have taken over each Division Series, and now we get a Game 5 tonight to wrap things up between the Guardians and Yankees.

Plus, we have Monday Night Football, the MLS playoffs and some early-season NHL action on tonight. Here’s what I’m watching today.

MUST WATCH:

Cleveland Guardians designated hitter Josh Naylor reacts after hitting a solo home run against the New York Yankees

Cleveland Guardians at New York Yankees

This one is for all the marbles. It’s win-or-go-home time at Yankee Stadium, where New York will look to avoid yet another postseason disappointment and knock off a scrappy Cleveland team that has made things much harder than expected in this ALDS. The Guardians have been clutch throughout this series, getting huge hits late in Games 2 and 3 to give them two cracks at toppling the Yankees. Which of these teams will extend its season and get a crack at the Astros in the ALCS? I can’t wait for this game.

LINEUP:

• Inter Miami at New York City FC | These two teams come in playing their best soccer of the season at the right time. Inter Miami and NYCFC have combined to win eight of their last 10 matches in all competitions, and the teams split their two regular-season meetings this summer. We’ll see if Gonzalo Higuaín can lead Miami to an upset at Citi Field. 7 p.m. ET, FS1, watch on fuboTV

• Florida Panthers at Boston Bruins | Last year’s Presidents’ Trophy winners are off to a 2–0–0 start to the new season. And while a playoff breakthrough is surely what Panther fans are yearning for, beating another postseason contender in Boston would be a nice early-season statement that Florida will again be one of the best teams in the NHL. 7 p.m. ET, Bally Sports Florida/NESN/ESPN+, watch on fuboTV

• Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild | The Wild have given up 14 goals in two games to open the 2022-23 campaign. That’s a bad sign heading into a showdown with the defending Stanley Cup champion Avalanche, who are certainly capable of scoring goals in a hurry. 8 p.m. ET, Bally Sports North/Wisconsin/ESPN+, watch on fuboTV

HIDDEN GEM:

Denver Broncos at Los Angeles Chargers

It’s another prime-time game for the Broncos, who haven’t put out the most exciting performances in their previous high-profile showdowns this season. Week 5’s debacle at home against the Colts was the worst of the bunch, exposing yet again the weaknesses of this Denver offense that has struggled to adjust to life with Russell Wilson quarterbacking it. Could the long layoff have helped build some much-needed chemistry in this group? This is a critical game for Denver’s postseason hopes against Justin Herbert and the Chargers, a division rival also off to a somewhat uneven start to the season.
