Gold, Wagner, Brown gets 2014-15 events

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) Olympic bronze medalists Gracie Gold, Jason Brown and Ashley Wagner are among the Americans given Grand Prix assignments for the 2014-15 figure skating season.

That trio, plus four-time U.S. champion Jeremy Abbott, helped win a bronze medal in the team event at the Sochi Games. Fellow Olympians Polina Edmunds, Felicia Zhang and Nathan Bartholmay, Madison Chock and Evan Bates, Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani also will compete in the Grand Prix series.

The schedule opens with Skate America in the Chicago area, with 2014 U.S. champion gold, Abbott and Brown entered in individual events. Chock and Bates will be in the ice dance competition with the Shibutanis; Olympic champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White are taking the year off.

Wagner, a two-time national champion, begins her season at Skate Canada, as do Zhang and Bartholmay. Edmunds goes in Cup of China, as will the Shibutanis.

Brown also will compete at the Rostelecom Cup in Moscow, as will Chock and Bates. Wagner is entered at the Trophee Eric Bompard in Bourdeaux, France, while Gold, Edmunds, Abbott, Zhang and Bartholomay get NHK Trophy in Osaka, Japan.

Two-time U.S. pairs champion Simon Shnapir and his new partner, DeeDee Leng, will compete in Moscow and Osaka.

The Grand Prix Final will be Dec. 11-14 in Barcelona.
