Broadco takes lead in Superboat-class in Key West

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) Powerboat racers Chuck Broaddus and Grant Bruggemann piloted Broadco to the Superboat-class lead Friday in the Key West World Championship.

Broaddus, from St. Clair Shores, Michigan, and Bruggemann, from Bradenton, averaged 102.05 mph Friday and easily outpaced Stihl, the winner Wednesday. Stihl's driver, Robert Noble of Orlando, reported engine problems, dropped out and finished last in the seven-entry class.

In the Superboat Unlimited class, CMS, with veteran Miami racer John Tomlinson and Jeff Harris of Greenville, North Carolina, retained its lead and achieved an average speed of 107.95 mph, the fastest in the 39-boat fleet.
