Martin Fourcade wins biathlon World Cup 10K sprint

OBERHOF, Germany (AP) Martin Fourcade of France won a men's 10-kilometer sprint to extend his lead in the biathlon World Cup standings on Saturday.

Fourcade missed just one target and finished in 27 minutes, 2.5 seconds, beating Norway's Ole Einar Bjoerndalen by 4.4 seconds.

Bjoerndalen also had one miss, as did Russia's Timofey Lapshin, who finished 17.5 seconds back in third.

Norway's Johannes Thingnes Boe and Switzerland's Benjamin Weger were fourth and fifth, respectively, both with two missed targets.

After nine of 25 events, Fourcade leads the overall standings with 421 points, 85 ahead of Russia's Anton Shipulin, who could only finish 43rd in Oberhof after missing four targets.

Warm overnight temperatures and windy conditions forced a delay to the race start.

Men and women's mass start races were scheduled for Sunday.
