Fenninger wins downhill training run at world championships

BEAVER CREEK, Colo. (AP) Anna Fenninger of Austria remains fast on this course, winning a downhill training run Thursday at world championships.

Fenninger missed a gate, but there are no disqualifications in training sessions. She finished in 1 minute, 47.48 seconds to beat Tina Maze of Slovenia by 0.03 seconds. Lara Gut of Switzerland was third.

American skier and crowd favorite Lindsey Vonn also missed a gate and wound up 19th, 2.36 seconds behind Fenninger. Laurenne Ross had the best finish for the U.S., winding up sixth, with Julia Mancuso right behind her.

Fenninger won the super-G earlier this week and is among the favorites for the downhill Friday. Defending world downhill champion Marion Rolland of France tore the ACL in her right knee during a crash in mid-January and won't compete.
