American Nyman fastest in World Cup downhill training

KVITFJELL, Norway (AP) Steven Nyman of the United States was fastest in the final training session Friday for a World Cup downhill race.

Nyman clocked 1 minute, 47.72 seconds on a course that had been altered slightly from Thursday's opening session, beating Guillermo Fayed of France by 0.41 seconds.

Werner Heel of Italy was 0.56 back in third, followed by local favorite Kjetil Jansrud, who was eight tenths of a second off Nyman's pace.

With an 84-point lead in the standings and only two races remaining, Jansrud would win the downhill title with a victory in Saturday's race.

The Norwegian can also cut the gap on Marcel Hirscher of Austria in the overall standings. Hirscher holds a 188-point lead over Jansrud but doesn't race downhill.

A super-G race is also scheduled for Sunday.
