Germany wins Nordic combined World Cup team sprint event

LAHTI, Finland (AP) German duo Fabian Riessle and Johannes Rydzek won a Nordic combined World Cup team sprint event Saturday ahead of France's world champion Jason Lamy Chappuis and Sebastien Lacroix.

The German team finished the cross-country sprint relay, where each skier does five laps around a 1.5-kilometer course, in 29 minutes, 46 seconds. Lamy Chappuis beat Norway's Haavard Klemetsen in a sprint for second place. France was 10.9 seconds behind Germany, while Norway was another 0.3 seconds back.

Lamy Chappuis teamed with Francois Braud to win the event at the Nordic skiing world championships last weekend, beating Rydzek in a sprint for gold.

Braud skied for France's second team this time together with Maxime Laheurte and finished fourth.

Lamy Chappuis, a five-time world champion, is retiring after the end of the season.
