PORTSMOUTH, England (AP) The hometown Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing has been declared the winner of the first America's Cup World Series of the year after Sunday's racing was canceled because of gale-force wind.

Ainslie was declared the winner based on his slim lead over Emirates Team New Zealand and two-time defending America's Cup champion Oracle Team USA after Saturday's two races. Ainslie finished first and second Saturday.

Ainslie and his crew were congratulated by Prince William and his wife Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Ainslie is the most-decorated sailor in Olympic history. He helped Oracle defend the America's Cup in 2013.

Rounding out the field were Groupama Team France, SoftBank Team Japan and Artemis Racing of Sweden.

The next ACWS stop is in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Aug. 27-30.
