Brittany Bowe sets speedskating world record in 1,000 meters

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Brittany Bowe set a world record Sunday in the women's 1,000-meter race at the ISU World Cup Speed Skating event at the Utah Olympic Oval.

The American finished in 1 minute, 12.18 seconds. She beat teammate Heather Bergsma's week-old record of 1:12.51, set Nov. 14 in Calgary, Alberta.

Bergsma finished third Sunday.
